Genomic Medicine: Technology Development, Clinical Application, and Emerging Issues｜基因體醫學月會
拍攝日期：2025/09/08 主講人：蔡世峯（國衛院分子與基因醫學研究所 名譽研究員） [摘要] I was trained in the field of “human genetics” but have in recent years commit myself to “genomic medicine” to realize the goal of “precision health for all ages”. Since the completion of the HGP in 2023, there have been a continuous evolution of sequencing technology and human genome reference data. My research interests include human genetics, cancer genomics, and microbial genomics. Using high-throughput genotyping and DNA sequencing, my laboratory has succeeded in discovering the genes responsible for two inherited diseases: type II collagen in osteonecrosis and IL6 receptor family genes in primary cutaneous amyloidosis. Also, my group has characterized the genomic alterations associated with lung cancer and liver cancer and investigated the genetic basis determining individual difference in cancer treatment response. In the microbial genomics filed, I have worked on several important pathogenic bacteria, including V. vulnificus, K. pneumoniae, A. baumannii, and M. tuberculosis, all of which pose threats to health globally. In this presentation, I should talk about unpublished works on liver cancer and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy to showcase the power of genome sequencing in precision health. Looking forward, we are foreseeing the advance of genetic technology and the clinical implementation of genomic medicine. Therapeutic development for rare genetic diseases – single gene disorders are becoming possible. However, many factors are to be considered, including social justice, health insurance policies, scientific research development, and talent cultivation.
