My first published design was Tiehua, made for @amirisushop Issue 24 back in 2022 and it’s still one of my most meaningful pieces. It was inspired by the traditional metal window bars found across older Taiwanese neighborhoods. More than just functional, these bars framed daily life and carried each craftsman’s personal touch, every twist and curve telling its own story. I wanted to capture that geometry in knitting, not just on the surface, but in real structure and depth. Origami knitting became the bridge: folding fabric to echo how metal rods cross, layer, and reinforce each other. Ripple feels like watching water breathe, steady, layered, endlessly calming. It started with a simple observation: how water moves when gently disturbed, one moment expanding into soft ripples. I wanted to translate that quiet motion into fabric. Short rows recreate water’s natural form, letting the surface shift and curve like waves across a still pond. Garter ridges layer throughout, echoing the delicate lines of ripples drifting outward. For me, knitting mirrors nature not by copying its form, but by translating its rhythm, texture standing in for sound. Pattern: Ripple Yarn: 4-ply by @mrb_birdstreetyarn
